Like a standard belt, a back belt or brace is worn around the lower torso. Comparably, a back belt is thicker and snugly fits around the waist. They are typically worn to provide support to the lower back. Removing the strain and tension through the back eases the stress through the spinal discs, joints and muscles. People with lower back pain and soreness can experience instant and prolonged relief when wearing these belts.

Back braces offer immediate support and relief for those with lower back pain. They are beneficial during strenuous activities (e.g., lifting, carrying, etc.) or acute episodes of lower back pain. For most people, back braces should be worn for short periods during the day. Exercise and lifestyle changes should be practised with brace wear for best effect.

A back brace is worn around the waist to support the lumbar spine (lower back).
